WarriorsTemple TopInterior 20110521 Noon
A timelapse of the shadows of the support columns in the top interior of the Temple of the Warriors. When the Sun is at the zenith (directly overhead) then vertical objects, like the columns, cast no shadows. This movie was made during the zenith passage of the Sun at Chichen Itza in May of 2011. The columns were originally constructed to support a roof and not to mark the zenith passage of the Sun, but they provide a dramatic example of the effect. (credit: Bryan Mendez, UC Berkeley)
