This month marks the pre-anniversary of the amazing total solar eclipse that will cross the continental U.S. from coast-to-coast next summer on August 21, 2017.

What is Multiverse doing about it? You can see on our new Eclipse 2017 page on our website here: http://multiverse.ssl.berkeley.edu/Eclipse-2017

ROADTRIP - Follow us on our pilot “leg” through Oregon as we follow the path of totality August 2-6. We are raising awareness in local communities as well as scouting for the documentary film that will be made next year. Follow us on Twitter @MultiverseUCB or Facebook at www.facebook.com/MultiverseUCB. You can also follow Dr. Laura Peticolas and Darlene Yan on their personal Twitter accounts. Their opinions are their own and do not reflect the views of Multiverse or University of California Berkeley.

YOUTUBE CHANNEL – Our partners at Eclipse Across America are joining us on our roadtrip in Oregon and are posting videos of our roadtrip on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9q7g-LzsbflaKGeKYtVbng

ECLIPSE MEGAMOVIE PROJECT - Through its Making & Science initiative, Google will be working with Multiverse on the Megamovie project, as well as working with educators and nonprofits around the country.  This project, which is currently being proposed to the National Science Foundation, is an effort to create a scientifically valuable cache of eclipse images. It will also create real-time movies from these images that will be shared with the public on the day of the total solar eclipse. We will accomplish both these goals by having thousands of people take pictures of the event (some with very strict specifications who are known as Megamovie Makers, others as they see fit). These citizen scientists then submit their images to a website where they are collected, and some of which are stitched together into a “Megamovie”.  Both will be an immense trove of data for solar research scientists and the public at large.
